Not only am I a full time student, but I intern too. That is the reality of most college students.Three days a week, I bolt out of class and commute to my internship. When I first started I struggled because I didn’t want to look lame in class, (mind you, I go to Howard U, the second most fashionable school in the country) but I needed to make sure that I was in appropriate business casual attire for work.
I now have perfected making transitional outfits that are cute and casual for class but perfectly professional for work. I always try to change the least amount of clothing because nothing is worse than lugging extra baggage around. The key to multifunctional outfits are a good transitional piece; they act as the base of your outfit. I find that skirts are easiest, but dresses are good too.
Here is how I make a 9-5 wardrobe pull a double shift.
On Tuesdays, I have one class and go to work straight from campus.
For class I paired a striped pencil skirt with a H&M leather jacket, black T-shirt, and off brand black slip on sneakers from Marshall’s.
When I got to work, I traded my leather jacket for a classic black blazer from H&M. I added a pop of color with my pink Steve Madden loafers.
On Wednesdays I have one class before work and I had happy hour plans after. So I had to make sure my outfit was super transitional.
For class, I wore this F21 pencil skirt with a white button up and my H&m leather jacket. I like to stay comfy while commuting, so I finished the look with my white Adidas Stan Smiths.
When I got to work I took off my jacket and put on leather pointed toe Steve Madden booties. The look was very classic and simple.
Once I clocked out, I changed for happy hour. All I had to do was switch out my classic white button up for this H&M jean shirt.
Thursdays are special; I go to my internship and then go to class from there.
For work, I wore a black lace dress with a blue cardigan and pink loafers.
Once I left my internship, I took off the cardigan to expose the deep v in the back. I also changed my loafers into Jeffrey Campbell cutout booties. I completed the look with a black choker.
