Two facts about me:
- I hate working out.
- I love Soul Cycle
I know this seems like an oxymoron, but Soul Cycle’s high energy, club-like atmosphere makes working out fun. Before attending a class, I had never cycled before. (I told you, I don’t workout!)
Before your class, you are able to preview the playlist for the night and view instructor profiles. I really think that was pivotal in my, now love affair, with Soul Cycle. I was able to connect with the class before physically being there. I knew a class that played only techno wasn’t going to work for me, but a hip hop one would.
The minimalist white design of the studio with hints of their signature yellow and grey was super inviting. Between the sound of Drake blaring through the speakers and the energetic staff that got me situated, I was ready for my first ride!
I got on my bike, the doors closed, and the lights went out. I had no idea what I was in for. The instructor had what literally looked like DJ equipment attached to her bike. For 45 minutes she lead us through choreography that included bike push ups and lunges (yea, I didn’t know that was possible on a bike either) while playing a mix of Tory Lanez, Travis Scott, and Future. We peddled our hearts out as the instructed flicked the lights on and off; the strobe-light like effect contributed to the party-like atmosphere that Soul is known for. I thought only my legs would be the focus of this workout but I was definitely wrong. It was high intensity cardio with core and arm work too. The choreography was challenging but it wasn’t hard to keep up. With the music blasting and teacher encouraging us to just let it all go, 45 minutes flew by.
By the end of the class I was covered in sweat and bursting with energy. Fast forward to now: I’ve become a regular. Every class is a unique experience and a great workout. Grab a few of your girlfriends and go for a ride! Your first class is discounted.
